As the name indicates...this RPG will revolve around Crossroads and New Beginnings.CrossroadsWe would like to see characters come to a 'crossroads' in their lives where important and life changing decisions have to be made. These events can be very personal...i.e. a relationship beginning, ending or changing, or they can be moral or spiritual. Whatever is decided, they should show 'growth' for your character.New BeginningsThis can be any number of items as well and most likely will relate back to the 'crossroads' in your character(s)' life or lives and/or career. They may be starting a new career as teacher or student at Xavier's School for the Gifted or may have been selected to train for the upcoming X-Men team(s). Their 'new beginning' once again may be as simple as establishing a new relationship or changes in an old one.

Whale: Storm Bridge/Chamber Tags: All ThereEvan frowned as he listened to Cyclops. ~How about we make a deal with Nemesis instead, agreeing to give him the ship in return for our freedom to leave unhindered and without being followed? We don't need the ship except to get us home, I'm sure, and if he agrees, surely we can contact the school from the mainland and get a ride home that way.~
"We can always hope," Cyclops replied. "But I'm not sure Nemesis can make that deal, or that Wolverine would. And it's their call."
Concerned at the silence from Wolverine, Scott puzzled over the console in the control room, managing with a bit of fiddling to open an intercom channel up to the enclosed portion of the flying bridge. It was with considerable relief that he heard Logan's growling voice a few seconds later.
-- this whole thing was a freakin' set up... whatever he's plannin', he's got us outta the way ... and he's gotten you outta the way..."
There came the sound of movement, then the voice was louder and came from Scott's radio as well.
"Cyclops, you readin' any o' this?? Either find a way to move this ship or get everybody off of it ... I'll hold 'em off up here if you can get that damm transpad workin'. I ain't losin' no kids on my watch... get 'em off this rig! And don't forget the girl... Nightcrawler will bring her down to you... Soldier Boy stays with me."
~"Chamber,"~ Cyclops sent over both radio and link, ~"Try to get the ship to tell you what’s wrong with the transpad and how it can be fixed. Evo, ask the ship about defenses, internal and external. Especially non-lethal ones." As Scott moved to the console and began scanning it with a pilot’s eye, he spoke into the intercom. The commando leader needed to hear his words as well. "He's done more than gotten Nemesis and us out of the way – he’s gotten us at each others' throats, just like he tried to do on the Olympia. He dropped this ship in front of us like a nice, juicy steak in front of a couple of big dogs."

Re: Whale: Upper Disk/Gyrich/Tags: Logan, Crow, Chamber((Craps!! I got Evo and Chamber mixed up!!
Oh well, they're both working through the tutorial system then, there's one upstairs and one in the control room -- can't undo what's already been played for a while.
Evo will learn at a faster rate than Chamber, since his primary involvement is working through the tutorials. Crow also knows somewhat from her limited time onboard earlier, although her knowledge will be at the superficial "skim" level, and operational control will be at the "lucky guess" level))Edited by: Paid by the Word at: 2/10/06 12:43 pm
Re: Whale: Upper Disk/Gyrich/Tags: Logan, Crow, ChamberTurning to narrow his darkened eyes at the soldiers' leader, [Logan] added, "I'll hold 'em off up here if you can get that damm transpad workin'. I ain't losin' no kids on my watch... get 'em off this rig! And don't forget the girl... Nightcrawler will bring her down to you... Soldier Boy stays with me."
Transpad. Gyrich added the term to 'Chuck' and the panoply of code names he'd been mentally collecting. From the way they talked about it it, it sounded like some kind of transportation device. Perhaps that's what the pods such as Magneto and his people had departed in were called. No, he amended the thought a second later, not unless they came in a much bigger size. Wolverine had spoken of it in the singular, and there was no way the older mutant would leave any of the 'kids' behind.
That much at least was an ethic the commando could understand and respect, he reflected, studying Wolverine with a new consideration. Though their powers had enabled them to manage surprisingly well, the younger mutants were still green as grass. For whatever reason, they'd been fielded in a situation that was out of their depth, and their leader was taking his responsibilities seriously.
"He's done more than gotten Nemesis and us out of the way – he’s gotten us at each others' throats, just like he tried to do on the Olympia. He dropped this ship in front of us like a nice, juicy steak in front of a couple of big dogs."
Gyrich frowned, not much caring for that imagery. Still, he had to admit it was logical. Irritatingly so.

Re: Whale: Bridge,Command/Crow/Tags: All in bothI’m stealing the elf, BTW.
Although Crow wasn’t accustomed to “military-eese”, much less fluent in it, she still managed to pick out the gist of the none-too-comforting exchange. Almost as soon as it had started, a cool, impartial mask dropped over the girl’s face. Some of the details were lost on her, but the rest of it sounded really, really bad for the longevity of them all. Miri spared a glance between Gyrich and Wolverine. She wasn’t sure which faction the imminent fight would be worse for.
Not that she cared. It wasn’t her fight, was it? There wasn’t a reason in the world she should get involved. She wasn’t loyal to either SHIELD or the X-Men, after all. No reason to help either of them. Besides, neither side liked her much at the moment.
Crow’s head hurt.
Almost relieved by Wolverine’s orders to get out of the way, Miri wordlessly headed over to Kurt. Although being back down would put her out of the action—and possibly a quick escape—it also meant she wouldn’t have to think about her allegiance. Safer for all, that way. Crow looked back over at the two men with something akin to unease, but the view was lost as, quite suddenly, she was somewhere else. Ow. Note to self: avoid teleporting.
Surveying the mess before her, the teen’s disquiet was quickly replaced by amusement, in turn slowing bringing a satisfied grin and a short laugh. Toad had made a wonderful mess of her barricade. With a substantially lighter heart she spun around to enter the control room, almost back to her usual frivolous self. There was a particular namesake to live up to, after all. Logan listened to Scott's interjection, his eyes focusing inward at the mention of the events on the Olympia. Funny too, cuz even when he was already scowling, Wolverine could add a scowl to that scowl.
The metaphor caused him to raise an eyebrow in interest at the thought of a big, juicy steak and his lip curled slightly into an approximation of a feral grin at being referred to as a "big dog". Then his narrowed eyes slid toward Nemesis with the thought of that big dog's pack bearing down on them.
Relaxing a bit as he leaned against the console, his hands flat atop its surface, Logan lowered his head and his voice as he said, "Chamber.... get below. I can take care of this myself." When he didn't hear a reply, he looked up at the boy, adding calmly with an assuring nod, "Go on... go. I want you outta here too."
As he waited for the young mutant to do as he asked, Logan turned to meet Nemesis' gaze. There was no anger in his eyes now, only concern for the team, a determination to give them as much time as possible to get clear... and an acceptance to face whatever strength the military had at their disposal. It wasn't the first time and he was sure he'd survive this too. He always survived, that was the bitch of it all. He always survived whatever was thrown at him, but that didn't mean it didn't hurt like hell. With that thought he turned his back to the man on the floor and waited for word that the team was able to evacuate the ship.
Whale: Storm Bridge/Gyrich/Tags: Logan, AndreasWith that thought [Logan] turned his back to the man on the floor and waited for word that the team was able to evacuate the ship.
Gyrich considered his own responsibilities. First was recovery of any WMD. That outranked the mission itself. It was paramount and non-negotiable, no matter Magneto's schemes or the bloodshed involved, even if the blood spilled was his own. Second was arresting Andreas. That was all that remained of the actual mission, the Olympia having now been cleared of hostiles. Third was seizing this ship.
Capturing the X-Men themselves ran a distant fourth.
Gyrich contemplated his hands and the bindings around his wrists. They were snug enough to hold, but not cruelly tight. His chest hurt where he'd been shot, but the kid -- or more likely Wolverine -- could've easily finished him while he was down. Why they hadn't the commando didn't know, but he was willing to show a little restraint of his own. While he would kill if the mission required it, he was disinclined to waste a bunch of kids, mutant or not, especially when they'd spared his life. Taking the ship without going mano-a-mano with Wolverine and a half-dozen mutants had its appeal as well.
Leaning back and arranging his shoulders more comfortably against the wall, Gyrich said in a perfectly conversational tone, "If you want to evac your team, I'll tell mine not to stand in the way."
Re: Whale: Control Room/Evo Tags: All There
Evan had been going through the tutorial carefully. He wasn't sure yet just how well he could control the ship, but he could at least get it moving...he thought. It was clear the vessel could fly, travel underwater, and even on the water. He attempted to intitate the ship's hydrofoil mode as the likeliest mode he would be able to use right now, and rolled the trackball gently in the direction of a nearby island, as it seemed the best method to control the vessel with the controls available.
Re: Whale: Upper Disk/Gyrich/Tags: Logan, Crow, Chamber
Suddenly the Jonah's Whale pivoted about on its access, and was no longer pointing at the Olympia. Instead, its new heading placed it towards the island some three miles off in the distance. With a harsh lurching movement, it moved forward three feet before creeping to a slow halt.
Re: Whale: Upper Disk/Gyrich/Tags: Logan, Crow, Chamber
Evan blinked at the ship's reponse. ~Cyclops, I'm making some progress, but I seem to have missed something. I got the ship to turn and move, but it only went about three feet before stopping.~ While he reported, he typed carefully, "How do I control this ship's hydrofoil mode?" then hit enter.
Leaning back and arranging his shoulders more comfortably against the wall, Gyrich said in a perfectly conversational tone, "If you want to evac your team, I'll tell mine not to stand in the way."
Hearing the offer, Wolverine straightened and turned to look at the soldier. He considered him for a moment; letting his words, tone, inflection and body language tell him much more than simply the spoken words. Leaning against the console, facing Nemesis, Logan cocked his head to the side and folded his arms across his chest.
"And why would you do that?" Wolverine asked with a simply curious tone; not challenging or outright distrustful, just curious to know why this man would let his team go free unhindered after all of this.

Re: Whale: Storm Bridge/Chamber Tags: Gyrich, Logan
Chamber 'heard' Logan but his attention was at first fixed on the tutorial. He used it, experimenting with it and was able to, somewhat, figure out the Transpad. But he figured there was a bit more he needed to know.
His glance at Logan was somehow pointed but he wanted to make sure he could figure out the workings of the Transpad before he left.
*Let me see if I can get the Transpad working, then I'm gone.*
Re: Whale: Storm Bridge/Gyrich/Tags: Logan, Andreas
Doing her best to look like simply a teenager, Crow finally strolled into the control room, purposefully making just enough noise with her feet to inform the two others of her presence. If she just happened to be worried about her position here, or the situation above, there was no way either Chamber or Cyclops could see it. With the flash of a smile she made her way out, giving them enough time to react to her presence. Some time ago, the shifter noted that startling mutants could be bad to one’s health.
Not bothering to conceal her long glance over Chamber’s shoulder, Crow recognized the tutorial as one she had seen on her earlier visit. She was slightly comforted to see that he didn’t seem to be accessing weapons. With the graceless flop unique to teenagers, Miri settled in the chair next to him, and turned her attention to its own controls. She hadn’t gotten enough time to really play around with anything before--this was as good a time as any to figure out the boat. For just a second she pondered what to do, and then, hands coming down to the controls, she entered the TransPad tutorial. Who knew when something like that would come in handy?

Evan blinked at the ship's reponse. ~Cyclops, I'm making some progress, but I seem to have missed something. I got the ship to turn and move, but it only went about three feet before stopping.~
Cyclops swayed a little but gripped of the console and kept his feet. A flurry of radio activity from the jets overhead greeted the Whale's motion and he frowned unhappily as he answered Evo. "If we get too far away from the Olympia, they'll open fire. I doubt we can outrun them and I'm sure we can't outfly them." As good a pilot as he was, his chances in an unfamiliar craft up against professional fighter jocks were effectively nil. "If we can do a fast dive and get clear before anything ASW-equipped shows up, we might have a chance.
"Unless those SEALs get aboard and render the question moot. Any progress on defenses?"
As Crow entered he glanced up, offering her a somewhat distracted nod acknowledging her presence before turning his attention back to the controls before him. Part of his mind was following a tutorial while another part matched the instrumentation and theory up with his pilot skills. A third part, despite his best efforts, fretted about the whole situation.
Re: Whale: Bridge, Command/Gyrich/Tag: Logan"And why would you do that?" Wolverine asked with a simply curious tone; not challenging or outright untrustful, just curious to know why this man would let his team go free unhindered after all of this.
Gyrich moved his shoulders in a shrug. "Why not?" he asked. "I'm a goal-oriented sort of guy. The mission only ever had two objectives -- clear the Olympia of hostiles and retrieve any WMD. I don't get paid extra for X-scalps and I don't do freebies."
It wasn't completely true. Nukes weren't in the contract, but he didn't see any need to confuse the issue by bringing that up. Cold-blooded mercenaries could be trusted to act pragmatically. Patriots were dangerously unpredictable.
Re: Whale: Upper Disk/Gyrich/Tags: Logan, Crow, Chamber
"WMDs? You knew there were nukes on board? That's interestin', cuz we didn't. As usual, Magneto's "sincere" approach to Xavier was a ruse for his own benefit. What that's supposed to be, I'm still not sure," Logan mentioned.
"I wasn't thrilled with this mission from the get-go, it's no secret that I don't trust Magneto... he and I got history an' none of it good... but that doesn't change the fact that the military would like nothin' better than to take us all out. This ain't my first dealin's with the military and it's agenda, public or private... ya' know, the Top Secret stuff, For Eyes Only an' all that crap," Wolverine added. He didn't trust anyone at this point except the kids below deck and they were green as new grown grass. All he cared about was getting them to safety, nothing else mattered to him at this point.
"I'm a goal-oriented kind o' guy too an' I don't give up easily. I get a scent o' somethin' I don't like I hold onto it an' I never back down, ever. "Outnumbered" ain't a word in my vocabulary, so you let yer men come in, Chief... but you best be prepared if yer gonna mess with the Wolverine."
He stuck Nemesis with his gaze for a moment, to convey the seriousness of his words. Wolverines don't back down an' they don't surrender, they're vicious when cornered an' will fight tooth an' claw even unto obvious death. It was more for that attribute in his personality that he was given the codename Wolverine... not because of the claws.
Turning his back once again on the soldier, Logan turned back to Chamber. "Let's move it, kid. We don't have all day an' I want you below with the others when the troops get here." Edited by: Wolvie6 at: 2/16/06 5:15 am

Gyrich sighed inwardly. Well, he'd tried. "You want to put those kids' lives at risk with your macho pride," he said, "your choice." Still alert to any chance to resist or escape that came his way, he settled in to watch the show.
Re: Whale: Storm Bridge/Tags: Gyrich
( WARNING!! One really bad word comes outta Logan's mouth)
*****************************************
"Put them at risk with my.....?" Logan turned again to address Nemesisi. "Don't mind-fuck me, Nemesis. Why the hell should I believe that you'll call off yer team... or if you do, that they would even follow the order? Huh? They'd just assume it was a bogus order an' that you've been compromised. I would," Logan mentioned.
"You can't give me any guarantees that these kids would be left unmolested. You wanna call off yer boys? Go ahead... doesn't mean I'm gonna drop my guard, not one inch," Wolverine snarled at him, "Not for one moment until these kids are safe. You get me?" Wolverine growled. He was serious, he was dead serious. No one would harm these kids if he had any say in the matter. He'd already been crossed AND double-crossed. He was on his own trying to protect and defend a whole band of inexperienced recruits. He took that responsibility seriously, there was no macho crap involved, it was all pure, atavistic survival instinct; protect the pack at all costs. He was the alpha in this family unit and he would die to see them safely home. If anyone doubted that fact they would learn the truth the hard way.
As he pinned Nemesis with his darkened gaze; ferality rearing its head again, the very thought of these kids being torn to shreds by heavy weapons fire caused a low growl to escape his throat involuntarily and with it his hackles rose. The animalistic feature caused the hair on his arms to bristle and stand straight up and the hair on his head slowly rose, making the pointed tufts more distinctive and gave the impression that he had large animal-like ears.
He would not back down one inch as long as he felt challenged and the soldier's see-saw behavior and attitude gave him no reason to believe any of his offers as being sincere.
Re: Whale: Storm Bridge/Gyrich/Tags: Logan, Andreas
Crow leaned back in her chair, eyes closed, doing her best to ignore the pounding behind her eyes. She needed something highly caffeinated to deal with the spread in front of her. There was no point in even trying to figure out how she was learning how to fix something that should have been impossible. Then again, her dear old friend Darwin would have called everyone in that room impossible, so…
Miri opened her eyes, looking to the other two. “Do either of you have any idea how advanced this stuff is? The only place I’ve ever seen anything like this is Area 51.” A moment later the thought occurred to her that she had heard about equally impressive bits under Xavier’s, but she didn’t mention it. Knowing too much about government bases was one thing, but knowing too much about their own school would likely lead to more awkward questions. Instead, Crow shook her head slowly, disbelieving, before looking back to her tutorial. “Whoever sold this thing to Maggie must be brilliant…or have seriously good connections.”
With renewed intensity, the teen focused back into the essay on maintenance. Even if she managed to keep her focus, it would take a while to figure this thing out. As it was, she as surprised it was going this quickly, considering the topic. She so needed coffee.

Background: Many, many years ago, Charles Francis Xavier established Xavier's School for the Gifted. Also, seeing other Mutants misusing and abusing their powers, he created the first generation of the X-Men.This original team was trained and lead by an old friend of his...Logan, aka Wolverine. Logan's co-leader was a young woman and student named Ororo Munroe, aka Storm. Once the team was trained and fielded on active missions, they took on the additional responsibility of teaching and helping new Mutants deal with their powers. On one horrible night, the X-Men were fielded to stop a particularly powerful Mutant and his 'gang'. The 'intelligence' received on this Mutant and his cohorts was sketchy and actually turned out to be a set-up to entrap the X-Men and take them captive. In the ensuing melee', 'things' happened and a number of the team were killed outright or severely injured. After making sure his remaining team-mates were going to be okay, Logan left. Xavier has not, to current time, explained his absence or even whether or not he survived.Current Time/Game Time: Almost seven years later, as Human/Mutant incidents are on the rise, Xavier once again sees a need for a Mutant 'police force'. He sees this new X-Men team as a force for good and a way to help peacefully integrate the rapidly emerging Mutant society with the established Human society. To this end, he has contacted Logan and asked him to 'come home' and train his 'new' team.
Logan has reluctantly agreed. Can shadows from their past be put aside for the good of the new X-Men? How will the surviving members of the original team react and what will they do as 'truths' are learned about that disastrous night?Note: We want the new X-Men to include younger versions of the old familiar characters such as Scott, Jean, Beast etc...as well as many of the OCC’s and other Canon characters that are available. Please ask the Staff BEFORE stating or establishing that your character was one of the old, now disbanded, original X-Men.
