(general) Adding a chatroom to your forum
Have a peek at this lot! Any one else, post any more as a reply, especially if you have used them.

Free CGI-Script Chat Software

EveryChat
This is a web chat script designed to work under any browser, to be as simple as possible for everyone, and it is one of the most lightweight chat scripts out there.
Cost: Free

FreeChat
With FreeChat, users need not download any special software! Their current web browser is all that is needed! Java is not needed. A frames-capable browser is not required, but is supported. A graphical browser is not required (so even Lynx users can participate)

Free Java Applet Chat Tools

MultiChat

Re: (general) Adding a chatroom to your forum
Care of Vampyress, Thank you.

Chat-Forum.com

Not too bad if you like Navy and white! LOL! You're not allowed to customize the chat room's appearance, but it offers some staff controls such as warn, gag, ungag, and eject user. Users options are: private chats, ignore user, action menu, chat box font color & size, user profile.

You'd add the code for the log-in box to your forum, and the chat opens in its own window.

Pop-up ad and banner ad on the log-in box support the free service.

Cool Chat

Not too much in the way of customization, but it offers user and admin features.

A banner ad supports this free chat.

Bravenet Chat Rooms

8 room colors to choose from. Users can control font names, sizes and styles.

Pop-ups and banner ad support free chat.

AnfyChat

It's been a VERY long time since I tested this (about 2 years), but from what I remember it was a pretty decent chat. I believe you must register it before it will work.

It comes as part of the Free Anfy Applet Package which includes the following:

Anfy 1.4.5 - Includes 41 applets for web pages, desktop wallpapers or screensaver. Applets in Anfy: Cube Menu, Morph Menu, Tree Menu, Wheel Menu, Flozoids, IFS Fractals, Life2d, Mandelbrot fractal, Bumpmapping, Deform, Fireworks, Hue Rotator, Lake, Lens, Snow, Warp, Water, Wobbler, ZoomRotator, Anfy 3d Light, Fluid, Galaxy, Tmap Cube 3d, Tunnel, Tunnel 3d, Voxel landscape, Wormhole, Book Flip, CrossFade banner, Mosaic banner, Anfy Chat, Anfy Cam, Anfy Paint, Anfy Blobs, Blur Animator, Fire, Flag, Plasma, Solid Scroller, Text Scroller.

I know I have more links somewhere...I'll post them when I find them.

Chatters Online

This chat is customizable and offers admin features for a secure chat room. It's probably the most feature packed free chat available, but the mods and admins have to figure out and remember all of the commands ( /msg ChanServ blah, blah, blah) I find it too stressful for me, but I suppose ICQ users and the like can master this quickly.

Free with banner ad.

SigmaChat

Some customization (except message area bg color). Graphic emoticons, audio emoticons, ignore user, private messages, sub rooms. The SigmaChat Server PRO enables full admin powers with customization and is very reasonably priced at $49.99 a year. Beats MultiCity's new pricing package!

Free with small banner ad.

Re: (general) Adding a chatroom to your forum
If linking to the chat room using a forum link from your board, use the following code as a template for the Forum Display Name.

Edit the code below to suit the chat room link/provider chosen.

<a href="full_url_of_chatroom_here" class="title">name of chat room or forum</a>
