local and global account FAQ
Q: what's the difference between local and global accounts?
A: local accounts only work on one board. Global accounts work on any ezboard. Usually the only reason to have a local account vs a global one is if the name you want has already been taken by a global account.

Q: do private messages work with local accounts?
A: Yes, but you have to show the local name as joe@ezboard, with the last part being the board where you registered.

Q: can my local account work on a Membership By Approval board?
A: if you were already a local member of that board before it went MBA, then you can still use the account, there is a special log-in link on the MBA page for local members. If the board is already MBA, it will not allow any new local accounts to be made.

Q: I want to become an ezSupporter, can I do that with my local account?
A: I don't reccomend this because you will not get the full benefit. You will still see ads at all other boards, you cannot use master accounts, and you won't be able to use the ezSupporter forums at the help board. Getting ezSupporter for a global account is a much better deal. The benefits are good at all ezboards, and you can link up to 4 other global accounts to share the benefits.

Q: can a local and global account with the same name both be members of the same board?
A: It depends who came first. If a global account JOE has posted on board A, then it will not allow a local account JOE to be created. But if the local account was a member of board A first, then the global JOE can join the board after that and both JOEs will be able to post there.

NOTE: if you owned the local JOE, and then you made the global JOE, and used the same password and email for the global account, the first time the global account posts on board A the global JOE will consume the local JOE. The local JOE will get 'eaten' because the global JOE overrides it. This will NOT happen if the 2 accounts have different passwords. To separate the 2 accounts, log into the global JOE and change the password. Then each account will have it's own password and can be logged into separately.

Q: can I switch an account from local to global?
A: no, you will have to make a new global account, if the name is not already taken , that is. The post count, powers, and title from the local account will not transfer over to the new global account. I reccomend using a different password for the new global account if the name is the same as a previous local account.
Also, with local accounts, the individual admin of that one board can delete your local account at any time.
You can delete your local account before making your global account, and this will allow you to reuse the same email address.
