mapcycle change time
i think BGH is about due to change out a couple of the maps , so i'll entertain suggestions.
ps i check the forum here everday so if you have any bitches, complaints or anything else i will see it, of course if no one is checking here anymore i'm just pee'ing into the wind so to speak lol .
Re: mapcycle change time
ok bud, iv'e been working double shifts the last couple of days so i'm getting behind again lol i'll work on it and see if i can get a few new maps inserted into the mapcycle tomorrow.
Re: mapcycle change time
hahahahaha... you mean you have a life outside of the server???
so why does your last short little post take up so much space???
I know I mentioned it yesterday when we were on PL or DZ, and I could have sworn there were like only four maps in the BGH2 rotation...
...well...I just played four maps and then the cycle repeated.
Here's what seems to be in rotation:
Subtransit
Falaise
Stalkyard2
Team9
When I play those four maps, starting at subtransit (of course I don't know what the order of your maps.txt) the cycle seems to start over. If you do have more than those four in your maps.txt (or whatever your map cycle file is called) I wonder if one or more of them just don't work (or can't be found by the server) and then the cycle goes back to whatever the first in the list is...?
Re: BGH2 Mapcycle
well i disabled the old amx and installed and fired up a new version called amx modx with the newest metamod.dll also hopefully this will take care of things but....
anyway here is the current mapcycle.txt in place.
so_stone2_bgh
datacore
subtransit
falaise
stalkyard2
team9
yutani2
what you describe is pretty much the same symptoms as before i talked to you on lozt the other day..
i'll try and keep a closer eye on it and see what happens. i have already tried (before) to completely change the maps in the cycle and rearranging their order trying to sift a little logical troubleshooting into the mix but it seems to be resisting my efforts at making progress in pointing to one specific thing to work at.
Re: BGH2 Mapcycle
ok we're still running sans amx modx and the mapcycle is running as it's supposed to, in the meantime i changed the mapcycle this am. here is the new line up.
if i get time this weekend or before i will expewriment around with the amx modx stuff and see if i can get it to run the maps properly. it's kind of handy to have some of the features the plugins add..
What about running the 'rockthevote' bit that Spark does on the SO servs?
Reason I ask is: I *never* see any voting options even when the automated system posits a vote.
But ya know, it'd be real democratic like if rockthevote worked (as well as maplist) to allow those so inclined to toss some map-like croutons into the salad!
Re: BGH2 Mapcycle
well installed amx modx stuff the other day but it seemed to cause the same type of prob that the old amx was. i'm going to play around with it some soon as i get some time here.
the amx modx is the current incarnation of amx these guys started up after the original coders abandoned amx there is also another group continuing the development of the meta dll
i have the most current vers of both on the server now and hopefully i can figure out what the deal is without whining to spark about the old oz 3 code. this started occuring after a valve update so i'm not sure where lies the problem..
Re: BGH2 Mapcycle
Wow Cannon! That mapcycle just seems so small. Do people really prefer them that way? I just get bored when we're running only about 15-20 maps on Gordon's rotation.

Re: BGH2 Mapcycle
well back in the day lol the standard was usually 4 to 6 maps, part of the reasoning behind a little shorter mapcycle is lowering the potential for players having to spend a lot of time downloading the new maps especially after over time the maps started gettting to be much larger file size-wise for a good quality map. also when you run a huge mapcycle, when you get a map that causes the server to crash it takes a lot longer to try to find which map is the culprit. so i guess what i'm doing is taking the long way around to say that it's just a habit by now and sometimes us old dogs don't change some things quite as fast. lol
Re: BGH2 Mapcycle
Hehe I hear ya. Right now on Gordon's the current mapcycle is one I put together last fall that is 31 maps in length. Took me a good while to come up with it - i.e. testing the maps and testing the 'flow' from one to the next. We really haven't had too many problems with the stability of it. I'm aware of the d/l time too - when it's more than 5-6 minutes, I'll usually disconnect and go in search of the map for d/l somewhere. All maps I put in a cycle are usually no more than 3 mins d/l time.
It's all the 'extras' that some of the servers have that annoy me to no end - WHY on this green earth do I need 57 wav files so some adolecent can spam the server by typing lol and oops all the time?? When those d/l's get to the 3rd or 4th one, I'll usually say CANCEL and disconnect from that server and go to another without all the crap.
If it's a small rotation though (anything under say 25 maps), to keep my interest, I think it should change at least once a week.

Re: BGH2 Mapcycle
well what i try to keep up with doing is cycling maps in and out of the rotation. instead of a complete change in the cycle i will trade maps in and back out just 2 or 3 at a time that way anyone who currently has the entire rotation will only hit the d/l'severy once in awhile for a map they don't have. i ysed to try to keep mainly brand new maps in the cycle but since hl2 has come out and even before hl1 mapping was falling off and it's now hard to find a good new map. i also test each one and check the connectivity ,R-speeds etc. of all maps before they are put into the rotation so sometimes it takes a while for new ones to filter in. depends a lot on what crisis' are going at work and here at home lol.
