please help
I have this problem with this one guy that I really like and I have for many months now. I am too shy to do any real pursuing so I've needed a shove from behind from one of my friends to get me to pursue him more than I have. So I took my friends advice and I am currently on spring break and I've been hanging out with this guy, Derek, a few different days now. The problem is, about two weeks ago Derek sent me an e-mail telling me that he likes me. When he's around just me he will smile at me and we will carry on conversations easily, but if we are around other people he will usually ignore me and not pay attention to what I say. The friend that gave me a shove to pursue him is also friends with Derek and he has tried giving Derek many shoves to do something about me, but Derek never really does even though he's told me that he has feelings for me. Derek has to be told to do things with me by this friend of ours and I hate it because it feels like he is being forced to be with me but it's really the only way I can be with him. But I also have to keep in mind that Derek has never really had a girlfriend or has just been friends with a girl before and he's a junior in high school, so he might just not know how to act. Please help me, I tried to make this as understandable as possible because it confuses me as well.

High school boys are pretty dense about girls still. If he's told you he likes you just ask him again if he meant it and then if he did make a move on him. He's probably too nervous to make a move on you, especially if he's never had a girlfriend before.

Thanks for the advice, I will keep that in mind. But I forgot to add that my friend also thinks that Derek loves like a 5th grader, where they will only say that they like me because I like him. He also thinks that he is apathetic about the whole thing and doesn't really care if he likes me or not. I don't know, all this just makes me even more confused.
