"House of Hope"
Last weekend I went to the Museum of Television and Radio in NYC to see some old soap episodes. One of the ones I chose was listed in the database as the premiere episode of THE DOCTORS. I knew that the show initially started with separate daily stories, then went to a different story each week before finally settling on the standard ongoing story format. However, what I did not recall ever reading before was that this first episode was never called THE DOCTORS, either in the titles or by the announcer, but rather HOUSE OF HOPE. I wonder now when it actually became THE DOCTORS.
Anyway, the first episode was quite interesting. We met the four primary characters (two doctors, a psychiatrist, and the hospital chaplain, played by Fred Scollay - later AW's Charlie Hobson). Robert Mandan (SFT and SOAP) was a guest-star. The sets were actually pretty impressive and spacious. Of course, Colgate-Palmolive was the sponsor.
Unfortunately, the Museum only has two other late 70s episodes of the show in their active collection, both of which I have watched in previous visits.
